Planning My Film Location

 Planning My Film Location

I am now ready to take the next step now that I have researched further into my genre and dug deeper into the elements that I want to incorporate into my film.  Before I begin conducting the film, I need to work on strategically planning the location of my project.  For the genre thriller/suspense I will be seeking a location that has such characteristics as dark lighting and isolated areas- a space that creates an uneasy feeling.  A location should also be safe and logistically capable for the lighting and sound needed to create such scenes.

YouTube video: Location Scouting-Top Tips by Daniel Grindrod

When researching how to choose film locations many of the videos that I looked upon were geared more towards bigger film productions.  I chose this video because it shared more of a focus on the elements of what is required for setting a location even at a scale of a smaller project.  Not every film needs a big production budget.  I learned that you could make a successful film with good lighting, a decent camera, and scouting the location ahead of time.

This video shares five helpful tips for me to look for as I scout my own location that best suits my planning.  The video also helped me build my storyboard and learn how to imagine the background of where I desire the setting.  Location choice and setting the scene develops the narrative so this is a crucial piece in the planning stages.  This piece will help me to gain a better perspective of expressing the storyline.
